About This Tool

PDF Merge lets you combine two or more PDF files into a single document. Drop your files, see every page rendered as a visual thumbnail, drag to set the order, and download the merged result in seconds.

All merging happens locally in your browser using the pdf-lib library. Your files are never uploaded to any server, making this safe for confidential documents such as contracts, financial reports, legal filings, and medical records.

Unlike most online PDF merge tools, this tool shows you a full thumbnail preview of every page in every document before you merge. You can spot duplicates, confirm the page order, and even remove individual pages from one file before they enter the merged output.

Drag the file cards to change which document comes first, second, or last in the final merged PDF. The order you see on screen is exactly the order in which pages will appear in the output.

There are no file size limits and no restrictions on how many PDFs you can combine. The only constraint is your device's available memory. Merging 10–20 PDFs of typical business document size works comfortably on any modern smartphone or laptop.

How To Use

  1. 1. Drop your PDF files onto the upload area, or tap Add more PDFs to browse. You can add multiple files at once or one at a time.
  2. 2. Each PDF loads as a collapsible card showing the filename, page count, and file size.
  3. 3. Click the chevron icon on any card to expand it and see all its page thumbnails.
  4. 4. Drag the file cards up or down to change the order in which they will appear in the merged output.
  5. 5. Review the page thumbnails to confirm the content and order. If a file has pages you don't need, remove the entire file using the × button.
  6. 6. Click Merge & Download when you're satisfied with the order and contents.
  7. 7. The merged PDF downloads automatically. It will contain all pages from all files in the exact order shown on screen.

Common Uses for PDF Merge

Merging PDFs is one of the most frequent document tasks in workplaces, schools, and government offices.

  • Combine invoices and receiptsMerge all receipts for an expense claim into one file.
Accountants and finance teams merge multiple PDFs into a single submission file for reimbursement portals. No more zipping multiple attachments.
  • Assemble multi-part reportsCombine an executive summary, data appendix, and cover letter.
Merge the separate sections of a report into one distributable document without reformatting in a word processor.
  • Join scanned documentsCombine pages scanned one at a time.
Flatbed scanners often produce one PDF per page. Merge all the scanned pages into a single multi-page document.
  • Merge application documentsCombine a CV, cover letter, portfolio, and certificate.
Many job portals and universities accept only a single PDF attachment. Merge all your documents before uploading.
  • Assemble legal bundlesCombine agreement, annexures, and supporting documents.
Legal workflows regularly require bundling multiple documents into one numbered PDF. No upload means no confidentiality risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server when I merge them?

No. All merging happens locally in your browser using pdf-lib, an open-source JavaScript library. Your files are read from your device's memory and never transmitted over the internet. You can verify this in your browser's Network tab — there will be no upload requests.

How many PDF files can I merge at once?

There is no hard limit. You can merge as many PDFs as your device's available RAM allows. Most devices handle 10–20 typical business PDFs (each under 10 MB) without any issue. Very large files (50 MB+ each) may slow down thumbnail rendering but will still merge correctly.

Can I change the page order across different files?

You can change the order of entire files by dragging the file cards. For example, if you want the pages from File B to appear before File A, simply drag File B's card above File A's card. To rearrange individual pages across files, use the PDF Page Organizer tool after merging. For granular page-level reordering, try thePDF Page Organizer

Will hyperlinks and bookmarks be preserved in the merged PDF?

Basic page content (text, images, vector graphics) is preserved exactly. Interactive elements such as bookmarks, form fields, and cross-document hyperlinks may not survive the merge because they reference specific page numbers that change when documents are combined.

Can I remove a specific file before merging?

Yes. Click the × button on any file card to remove that entire file from the merge queue. Only the remaining files will be included in the final merged PDF.

How do I merge PDFs on a mobile phone?

Open this page in your phone's browser (Chrome, Safari, or Firefox). Tap the upload area to open your file picker and select multiple PDFs. On iOS, you can also share PDFs directly to the browser from the Files app or other apps.

What is the maximum file size I can merge?

There is no enforced file size limit — it depends on your device's memory. On a laptop with 8 GB RAM, you can typically merge files totaling 500 MB or more. On a phone with 4 GB RAM, aim for files totaling under 200 MB for comfortable performance.

Can I merge a PDF with images (JPG, PNG)?

This tool only accepts PDF files. To combine images with a PDF, first convert your images to PDF using the Images to PDF tool, then merge the result with your existing PDF. Convert your images first with theImages to PDF tool

Does the merged PDF maintain the original quality?

Yes. The tool copies pages at the PDF structure level using pdf-lib — it does not re-render or re-compress any content. Text remains searchable, images retain their original resolution, and vector graphics stay crisp.

Is PDF Merge free to use?

Yes, completely free. There are no subscriptions, no accounts, no watermarks on the output, and no limits on how many times you use it.
